I came home from a really, really, really awesome family vacation in Cape Cod on Wednesday night, but my brain feels like it has been left somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic. So, while doing my nightly trawl through Netflix, Maiden Trip definitely peaked my interest.
Maiden Trip is a documentary about a 14-year-old Dutch girl, Laura Dekker, who sets out to be the youngest person to sail around the world SOLO. As in, BY HERSELF. Think of it as a coming-of-age story without the stereotypical love interest, drug/alcohol experimentation, or bratty teenage drama. Instead, you get to watch a girl that’s probably half your age with quadruple the amount of guts. Plus, the scenery – the ocean waves, the stopping points along the way, the gorgeous 40 ft. sail boat – is enough to make you feel like you’re back on the beaches of Massachusetts. Trust me.
