This most recent painting is a really fun one! This spring, Jon commissioned me to paint a portrait of Howard, the beloved family cat, to give to his wife “Sweetie” as a gift for their wedding anniversary. Not only was the subject matter EXTREMELY adorable, but the romantic gesture behind the painting is what made this an absolute pleasure to paint.
When the painting arrived in Rhode Island on Friday, Jon sent me the nicest message that truly made my weekend. (He couldn’t wait until their anniversary to give it to his wife, so a message from her came shortly after.)
Thoughtful gifts like this, a one-of-a-kind painting for a loved one to commemorate a pet, a person, an anniversary, etc. are not easily forgotten. I know how much the subject matter means to the people that ask me to do commissioned paintings, which is why I take great care to put as much of my heart and soul into them as possible. This is also why getting the following feedback from the recipients of these pieces mean so much to me:
“Molly…OMG…Oh BOY!! Your wonderful painting arrived today! In perfect condition too…it is fantastic! Just what I wanted and I know Sweetie will absolutly love, love, love it!!! Not only will it be the biggest suprise in our marriage history…but it will be without question the best present either of us ever get!…I’m too excited to type well! It is a treasure and we will treasure it. The choice of pink was inspired. It will look great in the location I want to hang it. You couldn’t have done it better if you’d actually visited the house. You are a treasure! – Jon”
“OMG… Molly, blown away!!! Too gorgeous, I love it and will not sleep a wink, because I will be looking at Howard all night. You are an amazing artist!!! XOXO Laurie”
Happy Anniversary, Jon & Laurie! I’m so excited that I got play a part in your special day. (I’m sure Howard feels the same way!)
