I’ve been so busy doing commissioned paintings, that I haven’t really had any time to do any of my own original paintings. It’s a great problem to have and I’m so happy! I love the collaboration when I’m working with someone to create a painting that they love. But I do miss the personal satisfaction that comes from painting an idea just because I want to.
The creative process of finding inspiration and choosing how to apply that to a painting is my favorite thing in the world. Although I can’t complete the latter part of the process right now, I’m constantly doing the first portion via Pinterest.
I choose the images that I pin very carefully, since I know I’ll be obsessively looking at them for a while. I know it sounds crazy, but one ugly picture can through off the whole look and feel I’m creating with each and every image. Does anyone else obsess about their Pinterest account like me? I suppose it’s my semi-OCD, creative outlet until I can find some time to do some painting for myself, abut I don’t mind it one bit!
Above are two of my recent “pins”. Black and white can be such a stark, sophisticated contrast. I love the reminder that this color combination can be playful (like the painting), natural and soft (like the zebra).
